Getting to Leeds Airport ...

Located eight miles north west of Leeds city, Leeds Airport is on the A558.

If you're getting to Leeds Airport by the below transport means go to our ‘Getting to the Airport’ section in this site.

Airport Parking At Leeds ...

If you are driving to Leeds Airport you can choose from a number of airport car parking options:

The airport's short stay car park is ideal for those travellers away for just a couple of days. It also offers parking for persons either collecting or dropping off travellers who want to enter the airport terminal.

Or if away for longer than a few days choose a long stay parking option.

Either the long stay car park that includes a transfer bus connection to the airport terminal, or meet and greet valet parking.

Valet meet and greet parking means passengers can just drive right up to the terminal and don't have to catch a transfer bus. The car is collected by the parking Rep, who parks it safely until the passenger's return. It's then brought back to the airport for passengers to head for home straight away.

Valet meet and greet provides passengers with a very convenient way to park their car. It's especially good for those travelling with children, disabilities or special needs. Business travellers also benefit from the service. As do those with heavy baggage.

Passengers can expect to pay £83 for one week and £118 for two weeks, depending on the operator chosen. Although it is advised to pre-book this service.

Leeds Airport also offers Fast Track parking which gives passengers a quick link to the airport terminal. Costs are around £11.00 for 24 hours or part thereof.

Airport Information ...

Do move through to check-in as soon as you arrive at Leeds Airport. Not only has security increased that effects the time it takes to check in but it also makes life easier to make your way around the airport without your heavy luggage that you can board onto the aircraft.

Here are the times that are recommended to follow for check-in.

Type Of Flight Check In Time
Long Haul Flights 3 HOURS before departure
European Flights 2 HOURS before departure
UK & Northern Ireland Flights 1 HOUR before departure

Once you arrive at Leeds Airport it's critical you keep your baggage with you the whole time. Passengers must also take care with their hand luggage after check-in too.

Passengers should never offer or agree to look after other passengers' luggage, or, carry anything onto the plane for others.  Do advise airport staff if you notice any unattended luggage or packages.

You will have to board the plane through boarding gates. These gates will be displayed on screens in the departure lounge. Bear in mind that in larger airports boarding gates can take up to 30 minutes to reach.

Information on security checks passengers must pass through can be found by visiting the Airport Safety and Security section of this site.

Flying Made Easy & Comfortable ...

Follow our top tips to ensure your flight is comfortable and that you've packed everything you need - especially if you are on a long haul flight.

Hand luggage is very important to get right so think carefully about what you might need. Do you want to try and sleep? Pack an eye mask and ear plugs if so. Pack some food in case you get hungry - even if you have an in-flight meal planned as they can be small (although not fruit or dairy as not allowed by Customs). And of course travel sickness pills and any medication you might need.

In-flight entertainment is normally provided by airlines but it's still worth packing a book, magazines and a stereo.

If you experience delays it's well worth taking a change of top and even a toothbrush to make you feel a bit better and help get freshened up. Or if you have a long transfer once landed.

Carry onboard a bottle of water too. This will help you stay hydrated and avoid any swelling hands or feet. Avoiding alcohol will help too!

Don't forget that it can get very cold during a flight so think about wearing a warm jumper.

Are you aware of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)? It's a serious condition where deep in the veins of the legs blood clots develop. It is believed that long-haul flights, because passengers get little or no exercise, can increase the risk of developing DVT.

Walk around on the flight when you can. Get up and down, stretch out. Do some leg stretches and rotate your feet and toes, all to get the blood circulating.

More information and advice on DVT can be found at the Department of Health website- Click Here. Also who is more at risk.

  Staying Comfortable When Flying
  1. Upgrade For the ultimate comfortable flight ask for an upgrade to Business Class or First Class.
  2. Front Row Seats Failing that, ask for the next best thing, a front row seat that has extra leg room, or ask for a seat by an emergency exit.
3. Aisle Seats Or, the last resort to a more comfortable flight, an aisle seat.  Here you can at least stretch your legs out and it makes getting out of your seat a bit easier too.
4. Pillow It's worth trying to see if you can get some sleep if you have a flight that's either early morning or late at night, or long haul. So ask the crew for a pillow and a blanket that both help. Also pack some ear plugs to shut out any noise and an eye mask to shut out the light.
5. Painful Ears Ear plugs, like a make called Earplanes, help avoid painful ears when taking off or landing. These plugs help by equalising air pressure on the side of each ear drum.  They are also good if you are suffering from sinus problems.
6. Dehydration Do carry your own bottle of water onto the plane so you can keep well hydrated.
7. Snacks Don't suffer from hunger pains on your flight, pack snacks, even if you've got a meal booked as they can be small.
8. Anxiety Don't suffer flight anxiety in silence. Talk to your Doctor to see if they can recommend anything to help keep you feel calmer during the flight. Also try reading a book. Or even completing a word search or crossword. And some passengers find breathing techniques helpful too.

Travelling With Babies & Children ...

Do remember that your children will find flights particularly boring.

To help them enjoy the flight it's worth remembering the following bits and pieces for them, even if you know the airline will issue an activity pack as they won't hold your little one's attention for the whole flight:

First of all, plenty to keep them amused. Reading books, colouring books, sticker books. Also travel games. Why not all have a go at making up stories too - with a flying theme of course.

If you're flying with a baby then include extras of what you need in case of any delays you might experience. Sterilising tablets, milk, food, nappies, dummy, toys, teething gels.

When travelling with children or babies make sure you pack them some warm clothes as the cabin will get cold during your flight. Also bear in mind any accidents that might happen, so some spare clothing is a good idea too.

Special Needs & Disabled Passengers ...

When travelling with disabilities or special needs most passengers find the airlines are equipped to assist as are the services in the airport.

It is also advised when booking your flight that any special assistance required is included in the flight ticket price - do check. Also, that the airline are aware of the help you may require.

In some instances airlines ask passengers to transfer to an airline wheelchair.  Should you like to stay in your own wheelchair until boarding ask your airline if it's possible before your travel date.

Do bear in mind that the boarding gates where all passengers are required to board the plane from can be some distance from the departure lounge so you will need to make your way to the gate as soon as it is advertised.

Consider if you'll require a special assistance vehicle for help around the airport that can be booked in advance of travel.
