|
If you are travelling within the UK, or International long haul, you can shop tax free which is like taking away the Value Added Tax rate of 17.5%.
Duty free at Leeds Airport is available to those travelling outside of the EU, and International long haul, for extra savings.

Do note that the Channel Islands - like Gibraltar - are part of the EU however when shopping at the airport you can shop duty free as UK Customs view these Countries as outside the Community Customs territory.
When shopping once past the security controls, in the departure lounge, you have to present your boarding card each time you make a purchase so the right saving can be deducted from your bill.
It's worth taking a preview look at the World Duty Free website (www.worlddutyfree.com) before travelling so you can get the most from your pre-shopping time at Leeds Airport. The site also shows the newest collections available from designers and brands who use the airports to present their new ranges. |

UK Customs Allowances ... |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Here is a guide on the duty free allowances when travelling from the EU into the UK:
- 200 cigarettes, or 250g of tobacco, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars
- 2 Litres of still table wine, or fortified or sparkling wine, or other liqueurs or 1 Litre of alcoholic beverages stronger than 22%
- 250ml of toilet water and 50g of perfume
- Souvenirs and other goods up to £145
- Duty and tax paid goods in the EU are unlimited
When purchasing goods from an EU Country that have already had tax paid you won't have to pay any additional tax or duty.
Very importantly, when buying alcohol or tobacco goods and bringing them back into the UK, you must carry your own goods, and not those bought and for another passenger. These goods must also be for your own consumption, or as gifts.
You must not buy goods that are going to be sold on or used as payment as this is considered an offence by UK Customs.
If Customs suspect that your goods are being brought into the UK for sale or payment you will be asked many questions relating to the sale, purchase and nature of the goods. And how the goods have been transported i.e. concealed or visibly displayed.
Customs are likely to suspect if the following quantities are being imported:
- 110 Litres of beer
- 90 Litres of wine
- 10 Litres of spirits
- 20 Litres of fortified wine (i.e. port or sherry)
- 3,200 cigarettes
- 200 cigars
- 400 cigarillos
- 3kg tobacco
Any goods considered being imported for commercial use could be seized and will not be returned. This will also happen if the goods are caught being sold. UK Customs view this as a very serious offence that can result in up to seven years in prison.
Many Countries have their own rules and laws relating to tobacco and alcohol which travellers much follow. To make sure you are following the correct laws do contact the Country’s Authorities before purchasing the goods. You may also need to carry documentation covering the goods too.
Here are some EU Countries who have their own regulations for cigarettes and some tobacco products: |
